Dear Distinguished Old Boys,
On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Methodist Boys' High School, Lagos Old Boys' Association, I sincerely express our profound appreciation to every Distinguished Old Boy, Set, Group, Branch and Chapter that supported and honoured our call to participate in the 2026 Prize-Giving Day and Valedictory Service held on Saturday 18th of July 2026.
The ceremony was another memorable milestone as 49 graduating students were formally welcomed into the fold of our Association as Old Boys, while some of the 184 students across the Junior and Senior Schools who distinguished themselves academically received prizes generously sponsored by members of our Association.
The awards sponsored were as follows:
Pastor (Prof.) & Mrs. D. K. Olukoya Awards of Excellence for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions across all subjects in JS1–JS3 and SS1–SS3. Aremo (Engr.) Ibikunle Okunoren (1957 Set) Awards of Excellence to 15 outstanding students in subjects with emphasis on Engineering. 1981 Set – The Pacesetters Hon. Ademola Banu Prize for Best Student in Chemistry – ₦50,000.
Hon. Ademola Banu Prize for Best Student in Physics – ₦50,000.
Hon. Ademola Banu Prize for Best Student in Mathematics – ₦50,000.
Dr. Donald Nkasiobi Anyogu Prize for a student admitted to study Medicine – ₦50,000.
Alaba Ajilo Memorial Prize for exemplary selfless service and leadership – ₦25,000.
The Set also reserved some awards where no student met the required benchmark of an A1 grade.
1982 Set Best Student in Civic Education (SS1) – ₦50,000.
Best Student in Civic Education (SS2) – ₦50,000.
1994 Set Six Awards of Excellence (₦50,000 each) for the Overall Best Students in JS1–JS3 and SS1–SS3. 2000 Set Rafiu Gbajabiamila Memorial Prize – Best SS2 Student in Accounting – ₦100,000.
Akpe Nelson Memorial Prize – Best SS2 Student in Biology – ₦100,000.
Raji Iyanda Mustapha Memorial Prize – ₦100,000.
Giwa Lookman Adewale Memorial Prize – Best SS2 Student in Mathematics – ₦100,000.
Overall Best SS3 Student – ₦150,000.
MBHS Lagos Old Boys' Association Award of Excellence to the Best Graduating Student – ₦100,000. In recognition of the invaluable contributions of our teachers, the following Teaching Excellence Awards were also presented:
Mr. & Mrs. Oluwatoyin Amusan Outstanding Teacher (Junior School) – ₦50,000.
First Runner-up (Junior School) – ₦25,000.
Mr. & Mrs. Olalekan Loremikan Outstanding Teacher (Senior School) – ₦50,000.
First Runner-up (Senior School) – ₦25,000.
In addition, the President of the Association, on behalf of the Executive Committee, presented a donation of ₦250,000 in support of the school's 2026 Year Book initiative.
The Executive Committee remains deeply grateful to every Distinguished Old Boy whose intentional generosity continues to strengthen our alma mater and foster a culture where academic excellence, leadership and good character are recognised and rewarded.
We encourage more Distinguished Gentlemen, Sets, Groups, Branches and Chapters to institute additional prizes and institutional support programmes in future editions. Together, we can significantly expand opportunities for our students and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
The Secretariat welcomes enquiries from members interested in endowing new prizes or supporting other institutional initiatives, as this remains a priority of the current Executive Committee.
Worthy of mention is that both the school and the PTA also gave some award of excellence. (5 each).
